My dream for Provia...
Provia's 15-year-old daughter Racheal
While I've never had the opportunity to meet the beautiful girl on the left, I have had the privilege of meeting her mother Provia, a bright, determined and love-filled Ugandan woman.
I met Provia on a three-week study seminar in Uganda. As a student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, I traveled to the country with around 20 other students during the summer of 2009. We partnered with students at Makerere University Business School in the capital city of Kampala. Provia was one of those students.
Since the trip, Provia and I have kept in touch via Facebook. It wasn't until recently that she told me she had a daughter. I think she was embarrassed to tell me, as she was 15 when she gave birth. After some prodding, Provia shared stories of her unfathomable upbringing, which you can read about here. Provia has worked tirelessly to help her daughter get a good education, but it still isn't enough. I know I need to help in some way. I want Provia's dream of a brighter future for her and her daughter to come true. That's why I created this website. Please help if you can.
Blessings,
Jess
